A doctor has issued a serious warning as the viral trend of performing a “mukbang” inside your car continues to grow on the TikTok content platform saying that crumbs and spills could “harbor bacteria.”
The “mukbang in a car” trend has flooded TikTok and sees creators record themselves eating massive amounts of food from the driver’s seat of their cars. One particular creator, Queen Beast, has blown up due to this trend, posting a number of mukbang videos which has helped her amass over a million followers.
Now, Dr. Singh, who is a health expert at WINIT Clinic, is speaking out to inform people of the potential health risks associated with the trend:
“Eating or storing food in a car can often result in spills and crumbs, which may harbor bacteria, mold, or attract pests if not cleaned thoroughly” Dr Singh said, according to Indy100.
“This can create an unsanitary environment, not only for eating in, but also for maintaining good health and hygiene,” he said, adding that crumbs may lead to an increase of bacteria growth that can result in “many health implications.”
“There are some bacteria, such as Salmonella and Listeria, whose ideal temperature of growth falls in the 40°F-140°F range typically found in a normal enclosed automobile.
“This increases the risk of foodborne illnesses. Drivers should always make it a point to eat their meals in a controlled environment where they can better appreciate their food and maintain proper storage conditions for leftovers or snacks.”
